Wow, talk about taking a hit. I posted the same free software list on a technical related website I run and it was posted to digg.com.
Of course, as I was attempting to login to my server last night, I was totally unaware of the lists posting to digg. The server was ridiculously sluggish and unresponsive. When I was finally able to login to the server, I noticed ColdFusion and apache were pegged and consuming all the available memory. It took a bit of probing around, but I was finally able to figure out what was going on from the log files. I saw links leading straight to the software post with www.digg.com as the referrer.
I ended up just shutting the server down, until the interest from the article died down a bit.
