This is ripped from a mate of mine #coldfusion [g]roucho,
sounds like a great idea. I am signed up!

If you or anyone you know likes guitar or wants to learn more about playing guitar read on and please do your “guitar playing friends” (in the Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Durham, Chapel Hill, etc) a favor and pass this along to them:

aka Join my group of bi-monthly (every other week, wink-wink) playing guitar together or simply learning new techniques, tricks, riffs, jam, peanut butter, whatever you want to call it.

I feel the “power of learning something new” is simply learning with others who have the passion to learn with you. You can come to one meeting or all; it’s all in a laid back approach that I want this group to form.

This will not be a classroom setting; but a free social in which you can show off a trick you have learned or face adversity in the face for the first time with others. Keep your sense of humor intact and you will overcome all feats. Peace, let’s play guitar! http://steelguitar.meetup.com/2/events/4873465/

First meeting will be April 4th, 7pm in Apex, NC (directions to follow once I have an approx count of people).

yes, this is a picture of Chet AtkinsApproach your guitar intelligently, and if there are limits, don’t deny
them. Work within your restrictions. Some things you can do better than
others, some things you can’t do as well. So accentuate the positive.

Tonite (is|was) the first nite in a very long time, when I have been able to work on something other than
work. And by something, I still mean the same type of stuff,
but at least it is something for me. It is totally amazing how much of a difference that makes.

Eye see you

I took talon to the eye doctor today. He was complaining of seeing
double sometimes. The doctor said his eyes are fine. He probably sees
double when he stares at something too long.

So? Can you tell what is different? No, I didn’t color my hair (well,
I did, but that was last week, and the color Jeff used didn’t really take
all that much). No, I did not whiten my teeth, although I want to. Give up? Well,
I am posting this from my lovely linux
laptop! Yes, I understand your excitement too.

I am actually in the process of installing
fedora
on a spare computer I had just sitting around. Once I get it all
installed, I plan on giving MythTV a try. I am
currently evaluating SageTV and SnapStream’s
BeyondTV. I currently
have SageTV and BeyondTV running on my windows box. They seem alright, although
both of their interfaces seem to appear sluggish at times. The box has over
a gig of memory, so I would expect a little bit better response from the programs.

Update: I’ve also just installed
Media Portal. I have not run it yet,
but the interface seems to respond a bit smoother than the previously mentioned two.
Plus this one is FREE.

My goal of it all is to create a computer based
PVR that I can stream shows from
and watch them on my desktop. I have a
WINTV-Plus
card installed. The card comes with a remote (sweet!), but I have yet to get it
working with the system. *sigh* Back to Google
I go.

Anyway, as I know you are and will be on the edge of your seat until you find out
how it all goes, I shall keep you posted. Thank me.

Breaking away from the computers for a bit this weekend, I was able to get
out to Farrington Point
today on the kayak. It was beautiful out. The water was calm and the area was very
peaceful. There were at least a dozen other kayaks launching from the same area. I plan
on picking Talon up early tomorrow morning so we can launch from there. I don’t know who
enjoys it more, him or me? He gets excited just going, and I love being able to
take him out and do things like that. It’s a ton of fun, and I hope it gives him
some fond memories to look back on when he is older. I know it will me.

Well, that is it for me. I’m out. Later.

Remembering the simpler times.

Talk about depressing. I don’t think there has ever been a time where I have looked through old photos and not felt depressed.

They just always seemed like easier times. Life was more relaxed. I was able to go out with friend, have a great time, and stay out all nite (my old body says no to that one).

This grown-up bullshit, is not all it’s cracked up to be! While it is nice to have things, there are more times than not, where I would just love to lead a simpler life.

These pictures are a few years old, but seeing them again does make me smile. I can’t wait to get back to the UK to visit my mates.

p.s. I miss my local!

Black and White

Posted by Critter under Media

There is a new show on television called Black. White.
The show is described as:

In this new FX reality series, two families trade places to get a taste of how the other one lives. The catch? Through the use of extensive makeup, the African-American Sparks family from Atlanta will appear white, and the Caucasian Wurgel family from Santa Monica, California will look black.

I heard about the show earlier today, and thought it sounded interesting. I am actually still in the process of watching the show, but I do not
think it is a real representation of how things are.

  • The black father (as a white guy) goes to try on shoes, and the clerk actually puts the shoe on his foot. He claims this would have never happened
if he was in his normal skin.
  • The white father (as a black guy) keeps saying, “I want someone to call me nigger, and I will just ask them, why would you say that? I won’t get
upset like they are expecting me to” - He has said this numerous times throughout the show.

To be honest, I am really not impressed with the show. So far the (white) daughter is the only one that seems to “get it”. The (white) father is
just oblivious to everything. He is like that idiot they interview after a natural disaster. The (black) father seems that he looks for things that
are racist. The salesperson comes over to talk to them. Black father says it’s to size them up, while white father just thinks he is greeting them.

I cannot say I will go out of my way to watch the show, but if I flip by an episode, I will probably catch it.

Fatty Flashbacks

I was speaking to a mate of mine on IM this morning. While talking to him, I remembered he had this picture of me and Talon. Talon was just under one year old in the picture.

Wow, I look heavy here.
