Critter’s Krib

Wow. It has been an extremely busy week/end.

Friday

We took Phoenix back to the surgeon at Duke. His appointment was for this week, but it was moved up due to his lack of weight gain. The surgeon suggested to just increase the amount he was being fed. He obviously doesn’t (or didn’t) share the same concerns that we have about his intestines not working properly.

Jenene met with one of the lactation consultants after her meeting with the surgeon. They measured the caloric content of her breast milk. It came back as being above average in calories. So caloric intake does not seem to be the problem. We are concerned parts of his intestine are not absorbing the nutrients as they should be. Perhaps they just haven’t started working fully yet. We go back this Friday for another weight re-check. We both believe his face looks like he is gaining weight these last few days, but
I guess we’ll see.

Saturday

So Saturday I finally got off my butt and started to finish the trim work for the kitchen. It wasn’t long before I became overly frustrated trying to tack the finishing nails into the trim
while attempting to keep everything level and square. Seriously, even pre-drilling the holes just didn’t cut it. I headed to Lowe’s with the intention and hope of picking up a reasonably priced nail gun. I found a  couple nail guns at decent prices, and then I noticed this. We already have an air compressor, but this one is more portable. I seriously do not know how I have ever
gotten by without one of these. It knocked the trim time down to a mere portion of what it would have been. My mind has been racing as to what to build with it next. I think a new cage for Corona is in order, as well as a new doghouse for Brandy. Look out Bob Villa, Critter’s got an air gun!  It rules —>

Sunday

So… early Sunday morning I walked downstairs to my office and stepped off the bottom step into a puddle of water. The carpet was absolutely soaked. I knew immediately what the cause was. It had happened once before. A drain under the house that goes from one side to the other had separated. I went under the house and sure enough that was the problem. The pipe had somehow separated at a joint. It was way too early to get the parts I needed from Lowes, and I was missing a part from the
shop-vac, so there wasn’t much I could do except wait until 8:00 am.

I sat down at the computer and pulled up popurls.com. I saw a post on Digg that mentioned Walmart was going to get a few Wiis in on Sunday. I thought it couldn’t hurt to go see if they have them in and at the same time, I can go ahead and get the part for the shop-vac and start vacuuming up the water.

As I walked up to Walmart at 6:30 am, I saw a boy and his mother exiting the store. I could see a Wii in their bag. My heart started to beat a little faster.

Might I really be able to get my hands on the hard to get Wii finally?

As I walked through the store, I saw two Japanese gentlemen at one of the checkout counters with their newly obtained Wiis.

I sped up my pace to a very non-chalant brisk walk — almost run. I flew around the corner where the Wiis should be, and found. Nothing.

The two gentlemen at the counter had purchased the last one. *sigh* Maybe next week.

Oh yeah. I fixed the pipes under the house. They should not separate again!

  1. Katie Said,

I know what you can make next with your air compressor……you can help build our attic! ;)
