Talon first day of 2nd grade

Yesterday was Talon’s first day in 2nd Grade, his first day at a new school, and his first day of riding the bus! Talon handled it all in stride, unlike me… a slight bundle of nerves all day. He had a good day, and seems to have enjoyed himself quite a bit.

He only had a small paper to fill out for homework last night. One of the questions on it was:

If you could change your name to anything, what would it be and why?

Talon’s answer: “I like my name”.

*shrug* it just made me laugh.

  1. Ubqtous Said,

    "I like my name"

    Awesome :)

  2. WillFull Said,

He kept the blue hair for his first day of school? awesome.

Also, what kind of self-doubting assignment is that to ask a kid whether or not they’d want to change their name? Maybe I’m thinking too much about it, but wouldn’t you want to encourage a kid to accept who they are, instill the confidence, and not question it? Kudos to your cool little man for appreciating originality. :-)

  3. Critter Said,

aye… I double checked with his teacher and she said no one had ever come with different colored hair.. so she didn’t think it was a problem. I asked Talon if he wanted to take it out for school, but he said no. That’s my boy!!

I hadn’t thought too much about the question… but you do have a point.

Even better was today’s homework assignment. They had to answer a few questions.. (Talon’s answers in parens…)
"What do you want to learn this year". (about animals and bugs)
"What do you like best about school" (making new friends)
"What do you like least about school" (Nothing)

There was one more, but I cannot remember it at the moment.. The last question, however, was supposed to be from them to the teacher..

"What do you want to ask me?"

Are you ready for Talon’s question……

    "Are you married yet?"

    That’s my boy!! :)
