I’m clean until January
Posted by: | CommentsYesterday I had another bit of skin cancer removed. This one was just a BCC (Basil Celled Carcinoma), which is the least dangerous, but most common. However, if it is left untreated, it can progress and become more dangerous.
I was able to snap some great pictures during the procedure (Dr. Ketcham rules!). I have to wait 3 weeks for the results, but odds are good that he was able to remove it all.
I will have to get some updated pictures of my nose. It has healed up quite nicely. I am actually surprised at how well it has healed…
I have my next full body checkup in January. I’m clean until then, I guess.
Picture and link after the jump.
The Sun. It Burns Me

Posted by: | CommentsFlipping channels at 3:30 am will give you the chance to purchase some of the greatest items in the world! One such item that caught my eye this morning was labeled on television as “No Need to Diet – Look up to 20 pounds thinner instantly!” Seriously… how could I not watch that?
Apparently it’s this body shaping girdle or something. The advert has women excitedly revealing how many inches the “Kymaro body shaper” has helped them hide. (that’s false advertising, IMO–but that’s not my point here). I think what bothers me most about this item is how it is sold. I’m sorry, but it is NOT that difficult to eat sensibly. You don’t even have to eat “healthy“, just sensible.
I flipped off the channel after just a few minutes and searched for their product online. The first hit was an “As Seen On TV” type site. I was going to grab the image to use in this post, but it was too small. I clicked the ‘larger image’ link to grab that one. As you can see by the image below. That did not work either.
It’s a pet peeve of mine. grrr

Surgery 1: Hernia fixed.
Posted by: | CommentsI think I finally crashed around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Midnight was my cutoff for drinks and food. I had planned to load up on a bunch of water, but that did not happen. I awoke the next morning, cooked Talon his chocolate chip pancake — it smelled so good, but I wasn’t able to eat any of them ;( — and got him ready for school.
With Talon off to school, there was nothing left to do but get a few things ready. I took out my lip ring and replaced it with a plastic retainer. I had been told that there was a chance it might still need to be removed because of how the anesthesiologist tapes up the mouth during surgery. I left my PA in, assuming that since there would be nothing done in it’s area…it should be fine. I was wrong.
So… Talon’s safe at school, and my neighbor, Steve has just dropped me off at Western Wake Med, and I ran into a good friend of mine, Richard. He was killing time while is roommate was having a bit of back surgery done. We kicked the shit for about 20 minutes until they called me back.
Then it was go time! (or so I thought).

They got me prepped in my lovely gown and shoes, and then I waited for things to start happening. After a bit of time the nurse came in to give me my IV. She started on my left arm, but after fishing the needle around my skin for well over a minute she gave up with that location and moved onto my hand. I was able to recorder her attempt on my arm, but decided not to tape while she dug around my hand. After a bit of foraging around she gave up and called in another nurse to attempt it. She was /finally/ able to place the IV into my arm after a small bit of fiddling around.
So after that was all done, I just continued to wait. My Dr. was running a bit behind schedule. Once my Dr. arrived, he marked me with a marker so that everyone would know what side was to be worked on.
I also asked him why I couldn’t keep my P.A. in during the operation. He explained that the electricity that is used during the procedure can ground to the piercing. I mentioned that I had used a grounding plate when I had skin cancer removed a few years back. He explained that that was on the outside of the body and since we were working on the inside of the body… it was the manufacturer’s recommendation to remove them. He mentioned frying of the member, and that was about all I needed to hear. I ripped out my openers and took it out.
After that the anesthesiologist came in and asked the usual round of questions. He said that the plastic retainer I had in my lip would be fine.. no need to removed it.
They wheeled me down the hall while the anesthesiologist asked me questions about my tattoos and the next thing you know.. I’ve got people leaning over me yelling my name. It was over. I woke up in a pretty good (loopy) mood. The nurses gave me my bag right away and I went to work inserting my P.A. — right in the middle of the room. *shrug* I was quickly shielded from the view of others.
I didn’t feel too bad, although I had to pee like crazy. I told the nurse and she handed me a jug to use. I unsnapped the lid, placed it between my legs and started to pee.
HOLY SHIT!!! That’s what I yelled out just as the nurse told me it might sting a little due to the cathedar they had used. I’m not being funny, but you would think they could of at least lubricated that damn thing when it went in! The amount of burning while I peed led me to believe they inserted a barbed wire tip! It was bad.
The burning continued for a couple of days, and finally seems to have stopped as of this afternoon, which is good, because this morning I had a Vasectomy done. More on that later.

The hernia surgery wasn’t too bad. Things were definitely sore the first day waking up, but over all… not too bad. Although there are the occasional moments of pain, I am definitely glad to have it done.
I’ll go over my Vasectomy procedure in the next post. I know you are all excited.
