Please stop talking.

Posted by Critter under Talon

Dude, that is all I ask. You know when you are allowed to speak and when you are not. You know that you are in class to learn. You are not in an all day recess class.

You know I love you to death, you mean the world to me, but I am seriously stressed. You do so well when you apply yourself, yet everyday you return from school having been talked to about your speaking out of turn and disturbing the class. I know where you are coming from, though, daddy heard these same things when he was your age. You have to buckle down though. There are times during the school day when you can talk. Hell, I am pretty sure when you are at recess you can run and scream! But the middle of class, man, is not one of those times.

You have been “grounded” in the past for constantly getting talked to, about talking. You have been rewarded for not getting talked to about talking. I am not sure how to even handle it anymore. I know you can do it, you have done it in the past, when you put your mind to it. You can do it when you try. I get the feeling you are not even making an effort lately.

For daddy’s sake and sanity, please stop talking when you are not supposed to.

late night infomercials are awesome

Seriously. If you stay up all hours of the night and flip the channels, you will be exposed to all sorts of cool things that you don’t need simply must have! I only mention this because I seem to be up very early (2-3am) each day feeding Phoenix. Occasionally, I will go back to sleep, but most times I fire up the laptop and flip the channels on the television. I would probably buy more senseless items off the television if the boxes didn’t arrive with “LOSER
JUST BOUGHT THIS OFF THE TV
” in big bold lettering on all the packages. OK, maybe it doesn’t say exactly that, but it’s usually plastered with “AB Blaster” (guilty) or “6-Second Abs”, etc.. Some discretion would be nice, people!

Just a note, in case you were interested. You can get the Rocket Fishing Rod (which by the way looks cool as hell) at the dirty Walmart off of Kildaire Farm Rd in Crescent Commons.

Family So what’s new? Not too much, I don’t think. One day pretty much feels the same as the rest
and they all blend together. I’ve been nose down coding and getting more familiar with Adobe’s Flex 2. I am re-writing the application I have for Talon’s Colors in it. It’s not that difficult to learn, but there have been a few stumbling blocks that give my brain a bit of a go.

Speaking of Talon’s Colors. He’s been having a bit of a rough time at school. His biggest problem is his mouth (Apple meet tree, don’t fall far!). I’m not that bothered by the occasional yellow or blue card, but it has pretty much become a daily thing. He speaks out of turn constantly and makes comments on conversations that he is not a part of. We are working on breaking him of the habit, but it hasn’t quite caught on yet.

Right this minute I can hear Phoenix pushing like mad over the baby monitor. I still don’t get it. You would think he hasn’t pooped in days the way he is in there grunting. He seriously sounds like he is going to invert is colon.

Later that morning…

Well, it is time I should get started on my day. I have an hour or so before I run Talon to school, and still a cup of coffee to make and suck down (yeah, Tassimo!).

There are a few new pics of the family up at my Flickr account. n-joy.

it is about time

It took forever, at least in Talon’s eyes, but his first tooth has finally come out. It has been wiggly for quite some time, and for some reason he wouldn’t let me pull it out. I had promised him it wouldn’t hurt, but he didn’t believe me. tsk tsk. Has daddy ever lied to you boy? :)

And of course, the tooth! Apparently it had started to bleed a bit at school. He was able to pull it out by gripping it with a paper towel. I wonder what the Tooth Fairy will leave him?

Baby update!

Posted by Critter under Talon

I know, I know, you are sick of the baby updates, right? Yeah, me too, but he’s just too damn cute to not post pictures for the family!

His first bath Phoenix has his first sit in a tub type bath the other day. He was none
too pleased. The remaining bits of his umbilical cord finally fell off the other day. I know, finally, right? The Dr. Rice had tied his scar right up to his belly button. We’ll have to see how it turns out as he grows up. He might be more self-conscience about a mucked up belly button than a scar. I figure worse case scenario, we can always have it “adjusted” if needed.

He’s still sucking down his food like he should be and passing it right through. Straining like a little mad man - you would think his head is going to pop off.

Talon is a big help with Phoenix. He’s almost over-helpful (new word?!). If Phoenix even makes the slightest sound Talon is right there to check on him and pat him on the head. I think he is a little bit worried that the baby will get sick or something. I keep having to reassure him that the baby is alright. I’m sure he’ll relax over time.

I keep trying to play with the baby, but all he does is just lay there and wiggle his arms in the air. You would think by now he would be able to crawl across the room when I call him or something. sheesh. :)

Phoenix being burped

I know the picture looks bad, but I was burping him and holding him from the front.

Not a good week for Talon

Posted by Critter under Talon

Talon has been struggling with his ability to keep his mouth shut at school lately. Just about every other day he is pulling a yellow card or worse. He just likes to talk. I can’t blame him too much because I am the same way; the exact same way. Center of attention, yeah that’s me. I mean that’s him.. yeah, that’s us.

I’ve been on him to tighten it down at school lately. You know, talk when you are called on. Quit chatting with your mates all day, etc.. I want to think he is trying to do a better job, but the non-green colored days are telling me something else.

Yesterday, just before noon, I received a call from Talon’s school. I was informed he had been suspended for the remainder of the day. Apparently a boy from his class had pushed him a couple times and Talon decided to retaliate by biting him. Not his best moment, by far. He is definitely having a rough one.

Six years old, in first grade and he’s already been suspended. I didn’t get my first suspension until around grade seven. I am not sure what that says, but instead of saving up for college, I am just going to set the money aside for bail. (just kidding, mom, relax!)

Update: Apparently my memory is fading :)

I see a pattern here

Or should I say, “I spy something orange”, Every Wednesday Talon keeps getting an Orange at school. I stopped by his school a bit earlier this morning so I could have a chat with his teacher.

Talon seems to get in trouble in group reading and in music class, both of which, occur on Wednesdays. Other days he just talks to much.

We currently have a deal that if he gets Green for a one month period I will get him a dune buggy. But since he keeps getting an Orange, we have to keep starting over. It is a safe bet, that I won’t be dishing out the money for a while.

It sucks, because I know all about the talking too much thing. Story of my life when I was in school. You just can’t help it I will have to print up some pictures of the dune buggy and put them in his notebook. Perhaps it will be closer to his mind then.

  • Talon - Wednesday is not spelled the way it sounds. I know, it’s dumb.
  • The OxiClean Detergent Ball cannot be used with hot water. It melts.
  • Who wants to be a SuperHero is a horrible show. I hope there is no second season.
  • This is a suh-wheet firefox extension.
  • I have moved my office downstairs. This is good.
  • I have two more cages to build. This will be good, also.
  • The dreaded kitchen, is slowly getting finished.
  • I very much dislike people that drive slow in the left lane of traffic
  • I just finished a 2.5 lb steak. It was good and bloody (as all steaks should be).
  • This is a test post from a third party application. Do you care? No, you don’t
  • Talon got an orange today. He was talking when he shouldn’t have been.
  • I have a ton of work to do, but I do not feel like doing it. Surprised?
  • I think the word surprised should be spelled without the first “r”.
  • LOST will be back on TV soon.
  • Prison Break has already started and rocks!
  • woot.com is the first website I check everyday.
  • Boston Legal starts soon.
  • I watch downloaded television shows while I work.
  • I feel uncreative today.
  • I still have to get Talon’s daily colors on the site.
  • I am done for now.

There has been so much going on lately, I don’t think I even look at the computer when I am not working, so that leaves free “computer time” for posting or updating anything at a minimum. I do have to sort out Talon’s Colors for the site, but I probably won’t start or get to that until later this week.

The kitchen is slowly beginning to take form. There is actually room to move around in there a bit, and some cups and plates have even made their way back into the cupboards. Today’s goal is to get the old sink back in the new cabinet. We will be using that one temporarily until the new countertops are ordered and installed. Lately, I have been having to wash dishes in the extra bathroom. Uh, you think that’s a PITA? Damn right! I cannot wait to get the walls painted and the floor laid, by then it will be almost done, but just a bit of paint on the walls would make me feel like there will be an end to it all.

The weather has been shit hot. Uncomfortable to say the least. It’s just too friggin hot to get outside and play. That, and the mosquitos are still pretty heavy, so any outside play requires a lethal dousing of repellant, which stinks and is a PITA, and then you have to shower after you go outside because you A) stink from repellant and B) are drenched from sweating. Bah

Bring on the cooler weather, anytime!

So Talon is infatuated with Ford Mustangs. Did I say infatuated? I meant obsessed or crazy. I cannot seem to figure out which one it is. He points out every mustang and convertible vehicle he sees on the road. Yes, I mean every single one. It is definitely cool to see him wanting to learn about them, though. We go through just about every car we see, and he can identify just about every make of vehicle out there.

“Look dad, there’s a BMW”

“What else is it called?”, I ask.

“Beemer”, he responds.

The other nite for a “treat”, I took Talon up to the new Ford dealership on Walnut. Talon was in 6-year old heaven. We looked at the Ford GT, which is a totally hawt car! The new dealership is mostly inside so we were able to escape the heat for a bit, as well. Talon spent a lot of time sitting in the Mustang convertibles, “driving” as he puts it.

I am not /that/ big of a Mustang fan, but some of the cars there did look delish. Yeah, I said it.

So what else has been going on? I should start taking notes, since my memory is such crap.

Kate had a bit of a flood in her apartment at the beginning of the week. One of the hoses on the washing machine snapped, flooding out the second floor and leaving about 3 inches of water on the first floor. Ricky said he woke up around 3 am and heard all the water, but thought it was just raining outside. I stopped by later that morning. Wow! I don’t think I have ever seen that much water where it shouldn’t be! The apartment complex has put them up in the model for about 10 days while they repair the damage.

Last nite after running some errands, Talon and I stopped at Champps at Triangle Town Center for dinner. After eating everything we ordered (we were both hungry) we decided to order dessert, which is something we normally don’t do — neither one of us really has a sweet tooth. We ordered the “Mile High Pie”, I think the only words that can describe it are “Sugar Overload” Yeah, I think that definitely covers it.  I’ve been playing around with digital video abit, and you can see the dessert by clicking below.

Ah well, I am off to fix a kitchen sink. While a bathtub offers a great deal of room for getting the dishes washed, it is a pain in the arse to use.

And for those of you that are notified when the blog is updated, I have decided to kill all the subscriptions. You will have to either subscribe to the RSS feed, or just visit the site on occasion to see if it has been updated. I apologize if that is an inconvenience for anyone, but I just feel like I am spamming people when I post. See you people are causing me guilt, shame on you! Ha, just kidding.

later all.

btw, Talon did get all greens this week :)

Talon’s First Sparring Match

Posted by Critter under Talon

Here are a couple pictures from yesterday’s sparring
class. It was Talon’s first time to spar. He did well, except for the
whole /turning away from his opponent/ thing :), but hey… I’m
proud!
